New Delhi, Oct 06 (V7N) – A shocking incident unfolded in the Supreme Court of India when a 71-year-old lawyer, identified as Kishore Rakesh, threw a shoe toward Chief Justice B.R. Gavai during a court hearing. The shoe, however, did not reach the judge, and security personnel immediately detained the man, according to NDTV.
Despite the disruption, Chief Justice Gavai remained calm and continued the proceedings.
“I am the least affected person in such an incident,” he remarked, resuming the hearing without interruption.
According to multiple Indian media outlets, the accused hurled the shoe while shouting slogans such as “India will not tolerate insults to Sanatan Dharma.” The outburst occurred just as the Chief Justice began hearing the first case of the day.
Investigators revealed that the accused gained entry into the courtroom using a proxy access card allegedly provided by another lawyer or clerk. His motive remains unclear, and he is currently being interrogated by security agencies.
Eyewitnesses confirmed that Chief Justice Gavai maintained complete composure throughout the episode. Prominent lawyer Indira Jaising condemned the act, calling for a thorough investigation:
“This incident should be probed fully. The accused must face legal action. It’s an attack on the dignity of the Supreme Court and should be strongly condemned by the entire judiciary.”
The incident has raised serious concerns about security protocols inside India’s highest court and sparked widespread condemnation across the legal community.
