Dhaka, Aug 22 (V7N) – Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has postponed her planned visit to five Asian countries, including Bangladesh. The decision was officially communicated to the Bangladesh government on Thursday.
Meloni was scheduled to begin her Asian tour in Dhaka on August 30 at the invitation of Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, with a meeting between the two leaders planned for the following day. Her itinerary also included visits to Singapore, Vietnam, South Korea, and Japan.
Diplomatic sources confirmed that the cancellation was not limited to Bangladesh but covered her entire Asian trip. The Italian Prime Minister is currently playing a key role in NATO discussions with the United States and Russia regarding the Ukraine war, which has significantly increased her international commitments.
Despite the cancellation, diplomatic officials noted that Italy continues to value its ties with Bangladesh and broader engagement in Asia, and the visit may be rescheduled when Meloni’s international schedule allows.
