Sydney, Aug 04 (V7N) – A sea of demonstrators flooded Australia’s iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge on Sunday to protest Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip and demand urgent humanitarian relief. Chanting slogans in solidarity with Palestine, protesters expressed deep outrage over the continued conflict and what they described as a “man-made famine” in Gaza.

The march, organized under the banner ‘March for Humanity’, drew an estimated crowd of over 100,000 people, according to police. Organizers claimed the turnout reached nearly 300,000. The protest temporarily halted traffic across the kilometre-long bridge as participants stretched from one end to the other, united in a call for justice.

Demonstrators carried pots and pans to symbolize hunger, a poignant reference to the severe humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza. Placards demanding the liberation of Palestine and an end to the siege were seen throughout the crowd. The air echoed with powerful chants of “Palestine, Palestine,” reverberating across the bridge.

Among the prominent figures present were WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, former Australian foreign ministers, and several sitting senators, all voicing support for Palestinian self-determination.

Simultaneously, a similar protest took place in Melbourne, where demonstrators also turned out in large numbers amid a heavy police presence.

Speakers at the event called on the international community to impose strict sanctions on Israel and to recognize Palestine as an independent state. Many urged global powers to act swiftly to end what they described as “systemic injustice” and “oppression of the Palestinian people.”

The protest marked one of the largest pro-Palestinian demonstrations in Australia in recent years and drew international attention to the growing public demand for an end to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
