Geneva, July 4 (V7N) — UN Special Envoy to Palestine Francesca Albanese has revealed that Israel has dropped explosives on Gaza with destructive power equivalent to six times that of the atomic bomb used on Hiroshima during World War II.

Albanese made the remarks on Thursday (July 3) while presenting her latest report to the UN Human Rights Council. The Qatar-based media outlet Al Jazeera reported the statement.

“Eighty-five thousand tons of explosives have been used to destroy Gaza — six times more powerful than the bomb dropped on Hiroshima,” said Albanese. “This has fueled one of the most brutal massacres in modern history.”

She also accused arms manufacturers of profiting immensely by supplying Israel with advanced weaponry for the attacks on Gaza.

Albanese condemned the so-called Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, operated by the US-Israeli coalition, calling it “a death trap — designed to kill or force a starving, emaciated population to flee.”

Highlighting the grim reality on the ground, she said the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories is “dire.” While official figures estimate the death toll at over 200,000 Palestinians, Albanese noted that health experts believe the actual number is far higher.

Latest Toll in Gaza

The Gaza Health Ministry reported that in the past 24 hours alone, at least 118 Palestinians were killed and 581 injured in Israeli attacks. Among the dead were 12 people who had gathered at US- and Israeli-supported aid centers in search of assistance.

Since the start of Israel’s military operations in October 2023, at least 57,130 Palestinians have been killed and 134,592 wounded, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
