Mongla, Sept 3 (V7N) – A community-based cleanliness drive aimed at preventing mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue, chikungunya, and Zika was carried out in Mongla on Tuesday morning. The campaign, organized by BRAC, took place in the cemetery area of Ward 6 in Mongla Municipality under the slogan: "Keep Your Yard Clean, Stay Healthy."
The initiative was supported by the Directorate General of Health Services’ National Malaria Elimination and Aedes-Borne Disease Control Program, the Ministry of Family Welfare, and BRAC, with assistance from Mongla Sea Scouts.
The opening ceremony was presided over by environmental and civic activist Md. Nur Alam Sheikh. Other speakers included social worker Md. Rezaul Karim, Municipal BNP Organizing Secretary Golam Nur Jony, Volunteer League leader Shariful Islam Mithu, Rover Scout Leader Rebeka Sultana Parvin, Sea Scout Leader Abdullah Al Mamun, youth leader Mehedi Hasan, Sanat Kumar from BRAC’s Climate Change and Health Project, Abu Zafar from the TB Control Program, and field organizer Nur-e-Alam, along with other BRAC representatives.
Following the inauguration, volunteers carried out waste removal and cleanliness activities across several roads in the municipality.
Speakers at the event stressed that the first step to combating dengue is to maintain cleanliness in one’s own surroundings and eliminate mosquito breeding grounds. They emphasized that beyond government action, active participation from citizens is essential to build a dengue-free society.
Organizers expressed hope that through collective awareness and community action, the spread of dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases can be effectively controlled.
