NATORE, July 18, 2026 (v7n) – National Parliament Whip and MP for Natore-2, Advocate Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu, has said that BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has placed farmers' welfare at the centre of his development vision by introducing a nationwide canal re-excavation initiative aimed at improving irrigation and agricultural productivity.
Speaking at a government assistance distribution ceremony at the Naldanga Upazila Hall Room on Saturday, Dulu said farmers in Bangladesh had been deprived of adequate support for many years, and that Tarique Rahman had pledged to transform their lives even before assuming state power. According to Dulu, the BNP leader has announced plans to provide every farmer in Bangladesh with a Farmer Card within the next three years, enabling access to agricultural inputs, institutional credit, and a range of government services and benefits.
"Providing agricultural inputs alone is not enough. Without sufficient irrigation, farmers cannot cultivate their land effectively. Recognising this reality, Tarique Rahman has launched a canal re-excavation programme under the legacy of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman to ensure adequate water supply for agriculture," Dulu said.
During the event, assistance was distributed under the Ministry of Social Welfare and the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief. A total of 33 persons with disabilities received Subarna Citizen Cards, 46 entrepreneurs were provided with microcredit cheques, while 19 families affected by natural disasters received 28 bundles of corrugated tin sheets along with cash grants for housing assistance.
The programme was chaired by Naldanga Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Al Emran Khan, with Assistant Commissioner (Land) Shamim Hossain, Upazila Social Services Officer Suman Sarkar, Upazila Disaster Management Officer Robiul Islam, Natore District BNP Joint Convener Mostafizur Rahman Shaheen, Saiful Islam Aftab, District Jubo Dal President A-Hai Talukder Dalim, former Organising Secretary of Naldanga Upazila BNP Shafiqul Islam Bulbul, along with local political leaders, government officials, and media personnel in attendance.
