EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey, Jun 14 (V7N) — Five-time world champions Brazil were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw against Morocco in their opening Group C match of the FIFA World Cup 2026 at MetLife Stadium on Saturday.

Morocco made an impressive start and took the lead in the 21st minute through Ismael Saibari. The Moroccan midfielder finished calmly after a swift attacking move, giving the Atlas Lions a deserved advantage following a dominant opening spell.

Brazil responded in the 32nd minute when Vinícius Júnior produced a moment of brilliance. The Real Madrid star cut inside from the left flank before unleashing a powerful right-footed strike into the far corner, leaving goalkeeper Yassine Bounou with no chance and bringing the Seleção back on level terms.

The second half saw both teams create opportunities, but neither side was able to find a winning goal. Morocco remained organized defensively and looked dangerous on the counterattack, while Brazil struggled to convert possession into clear-cut chances. Goalkeepers Alisson Becker and Yassine Bounou made important interventions to keep the score unchanged.

The draw leaves both teams with one point in Group C. Morocco will take confidence from a disciplined performance against one of the tournament favorites, while Brazil and coach Carlo Ancelotti will know improvements are needed as they continue their quest for a record sixth World Cup title.

Brazil will face Haiti in their next Group C match, while Morocco will take on Scotland as both sides look to strengthen their chances of reaching the knockout stage.
