Seoul, Feb 04 (V7N) — The International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) held its 2026 International Branch Annual General Meeting online on January 30, bringing together 1,000 participants from around the world, including staff, peace committee representatives, and global advocates.
The event, chaired by IWPG Chairwoman Na Yeong Jeon, featured 700 IWPG staff, 200 Peace Committee representatives, and 200 advocates from Korea and abroad. The gathering reviewed IWPG’s achievements in 2025 and outlined its core initiatives and vision for 2026.
In her opening remarks, Chairwoman Na Yeong Jeon emphasized the role of women as agents of peace, saying:
“As a Global Women’s Peace Network in solidarity with 4 billion women worldwide, we must create a world where every woman can enjoy a peaceful daily life. Even in turbulent times, if women lead by practicing peace daily and working toward its institutionalization, this dream can become a reality.”
Several dignitaries congratulated IWPG on the event, including IWPG Advisory Woo Ok-ran, Gil Nisetaz B. Villarino, President of Leyte Normal University in the Philippines, Rector Guillermo Narváez Osorio of Universidad Juárez Autónoma de Tabasco in Mexico, and Mevlüt Karakaya, a Member of Parliament in Ankara.
IWPG Secretary General Kyungnam Choi presented the organization’s achievements over the past year and announced the 2026 vision: “Women and Girls Shaping the Future of Sustainable Peace.” She highlighted that women are active creators of peace, not just beneficiaries, which will guide all IWPG initiatives for the year.
Established as an international women’s NGO registered with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and Department of Global Communications (DGC), IWPG has 115 branches in 123 countries and collaborates with 900 partner organizations worldwide. Through initiatives such as peace education for women, peace art competitions for children, and a global solidarity network, IWPG seeks to promote a world without war, grounded in the strength of female cooperation.
