Baghdad, Oct 17 (V7N)- Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Baghdad on Saturday to attend the 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), amid escalating military tensions and an energy crisis in the Middle East.

Iran’s state-run IRIB reported that Araghchi arrived with a high-level diplomatic delegation.

During the two-day meeting, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, the Iranian foreign minister is expected to hold bilateral discussions with his counterparts from OIC member states.

The main theme of this year’s conference is “Dialogue and Solidarity as the Basis for Peace and Sustainable Progress.”

The meeting comes at a time of heightened regional uncertainty, with military tensions involving the United States, Israel and Iran, alongside an intensifying conflict in Yemen, raising concerns over regional security and energy supplies.

The instability has also affected global oil markets. According to Reuters, international benchmark Brent crude rose 3.7 per cent on Friday to reach $109.86 per barrel.

The OIC meeting is expected to provide a platform for member states to discuss regional challenges, diplomatic cooperation and efforts to promote peace and stability.
