Narayanganj, Oct 17 (V7N) – LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan has called for maintaining religious harmony and upholding the tradition of peaceful coexistence among people of all faiths, saying the true teachings of Durga Puja could be realised by establishing truth, standing against injustice and standing beside oppressed people.
The minister made the remarks while visiting a Durga Puja mandap organised by the Amlapara Sarbojanin Puja Committee in Narayanganj today.
Moyeen Khan said an eternal conflict was continuing in the world between truth and falsehood, and between justice and injustice. The lesson of Durga Puja is to establish truth by overcoming falsehood, defeat injustice and stand beside oppressed people, he added. The celebration of the festival would be meaningful only if these teachings were upheld, he said.
He said Goddess Durga appeared as a symbol of establishing justice and truth by defeating the demon. Society must uphold these teachings of Durga Puja by establishing justice and taking a stand against injustice, he added.
Highlighting Narayanganj's tradition of communal harmony, the minister said people of different religions in the region had a long history of peaceful coexistence. Everyone must work together to preserve this harmony and goodwill, he said.
He further said the jute industry once played an important role in Bangladesh's economy, with Narayanganj serving as one of its major centres. Alongside preserving the region's heritage, an environment of peace, order and harmony among people of all faiths must be maintained, he added.
Narayanganj City Corporation Administrator Advocate Md Sakhawat Hossain Khan, Narayanganj-5 constituency lawmaker Abul Kalam, local leaders and members of the Puja celebration committee were present on the occasion.
