NEW DELHI, June 17 (V7N) — India’s Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) with Britain will come into force on July 15, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced Wednesday.

The India-UK CETA was signed in July 2025 after more than three years of negotiations. Modi, who is attending the G7 summit in Evian, shared the update on social media.

“The India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement will enter into force on 15th July 2026,” he wrote. He added that the deal would “significantly boost” bilateral trade and investment and create opportunities for Indian farmers, workers, businesses, startups, and innovators.

Modi said he and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer were “very happy” with the momentum the agreement would bring to economic ties between the two countries.

Under the pact, India will cut or eliminate tariffs on a range of British goods, gradually making products like whisky, gin, and cosmetics cheaper in India. In return, the UK will reduce tariffs on many Indian exports, improving market access for marine products, gems and jewellery, toys, engineering goods, chemicals, and auto components.
