DHAKA, June 17 (V7N)— Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury on Tuesday handed over Tk 3,00,000 in financial assistance to Laily Baul at his office, honoring her “exceptional talent” and supporting her artistic journey, according to an official handout.
The ministry said Laily’s soulful voice recently gained wide attention on social media, prompting the recognition. During the event, Laily performed traditional Baul and folk songs.
The minister praised her authentic melodies and powerful rendition, saying true talents are resilient and emerge despite adversity, “much like our National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.”
“Our indigenous culture and Baul songs are the soul of this nation. It is our core responsibility to recognize such hidden talents from marginal communities and stand beside them,” Nitai Roy Chowdhury said.
Ministry Secretary Kaniz Moula, senior ministry officials, and media representatives attended the event.
The handout added that the ministry remains committed to the welfare of the nation’s art, culture, and artists, and to supporting grassroots folk artists who preserve Bengali folk music heritage.
