PABNA, Aug 03 (V7N) — Bangladesh’s Barind Multipurpose Development Authority (BMDA) Chairman Agriculturist Hasan Zafir Tuhin has said that people across the country have started receiving the benefits of various government development initiatives.

He made the remarks on Sunday afternoon while speaking to journalists during a tree plantation programme in different areas of Chatmohar and Faridpur upazilas of Pabna.

As part of a nationwide initiative to plant 25 crore trees over five years, Tuhin inaugurated the plantation campaign in the Chalan Beel region and planted various species of fruit-bearing, forest and medicinal trees.

Speaking about government development activities, the BMDA chairman said the government has undertaken several development and public welfare initiatives since assuming office. He added that there are plans to implement a number of development projects in Pabna-3 constituency and that those initiatives would be carried out gradually.

Tuhin said extensive tree plantation across the country is necessary to implement the government’s announced target of planting 25 crore trees within five years. He said tree plantation plays an important role in maintaining environmental balance, addressing the impacts of climate change and ensuring a safer environment for future generations.

"People from all political and social backgrounds should participate in this initiative. Planting trees alone is not enough; proper care and maintenance are also essential," he said.

He added that many trees planted during previous periods were damaged due to a lack of proper maintenance and urged everyone involved to ensure the success of the current programme through regular care.

The programme was attended by BMDA Pabna Executive Engineer Saifun Nahar, Chatmohar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Musa Naser Chowdhury, Faridpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Umme Imama Banin, Chatmohar Upazila Agriculture Officer Kuntala Ghosh, local administration officials, public representatives, leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliated organisations, and people from different sections of society.
