Dhaka, Jun 05 (V7N)- Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a bilateral meeting with Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman on Friday as part of his three-day official visit to Dhaka aimed at strengthening political, economic and strategic relations between the two countries.
The meeting began at 10:30 a.m. at Hotel InterContinental Dhaka. State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam and Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam were also present.
Although no formal agenda was announced, diplomatic sources said discussions are expected to focus on trade and investment, defense cooperation, security dialogue, and coordination on regional and international issues, alongside broader bilateral relations.
The visit is being viewed as an important step in enhancing engagement between Bangladesh and Türkiye at a time of evolving geopolitical and economic dynamics.
On the final day of his visit on Saturday, Hakan Fidan is scheduled to pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. He is also expected to hold discussions with political leaders and other senior policymakers.
As part of his itinerary, the Turkish foreign minister will visit the Rohingya refugee camps to gain firsthand insight into the humanitarian situation faced by displaced Myanmar nationals residing in Bangladesh.
This marks the first visit by a Turkish foreign minister to Bangladesh since December 2020, highlighting renewed momentum in bilateral relations between the two countries.
Observers believe the visit could pave the way for deeper cooperation in areas including trade, investment, defense, humanitarian assistance and multilateral diplomacy.
