DHAKA, April 20 (V7N) — Bangladesh has an estimated 29.74 trillion cubic feet (TCF) of extractable natural gas reserves, Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood informed Parliament on Monday.
Current reserves

Extracted so far: 22.11 TCF (as of Dec 31, 2025)

Remaining reserve: 7.63 TCF (as of Jan 1, 2026)

Daily supply rate: ~1,700 million cubic feet

Projected lifespan: About 12 years if no new fields are discovered

Exploration initiatives

The minister said the government has undertaken several measures to strengthen energy security:

Petrobangla drilling/workover programme: 50 new wells and 100 workovers planned; 26 completed so far.

Seismic surveys:

BAPEX: 3,600 line km of 2D seismic data in Blocks 7 and 9.

BGFCL: 3D surveys covering 1,450 sq km in Habiganj, Bakhrabad, and Meghna fields.

Additional surveys planned:

660 sq km in Char Fasson (Bhola) by BAPEX

650 sq km in Jamalpur by BAPEX

632 sq km in Titas, Habiganj, Narsingdi by BGFCL

882 sq km in Lamigao, Lalabazar, Gowainghat, Kailashtila South, and Fenchuganj West by SGFL

The minister’s remarks came in response to a question from ruling party lawmaker Md. Mosharraf Hossain (Bogura‑4), with Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal presiding.
