Washington, Apr 10 (V7N) – Former US President Donald Trump has expressed strong dissatisfaction over Iran’s role in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
Citing reports from BBC News, Trump accused Iran of mismanaging oil transportation through the vital waterway and failing to comply with previous understandings. He also warned that any attempt by Iran to impose additional fees on shipping must be “stopped immediately.”
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical energy corridors, through which nearly 20 percent of global oil and liquefied natural gas supplies pass, making stability in the region essential for global markets.
Amid ongoing conflict in Lebanon, Iran has reportedly threatened to disrupt shipping in the Strait, accusing Israel of violating ceasefire efforts. Despite calls for de-escalation from Lebanon, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that no ceasefire is currently in place.
On Thursday (April 9), Israeli forces launched strikes targeting Hezbollah rocket launch sites in southern Lebanon, further intensifying the situation.
Netanyahu said Israel is preparing for direct talks with Lebanon, focusing on disarming the Iran-backed group Hezbollah and establishing more stable relations between the two sides.
Meanwhile, the US State Department announced that a meeting will be held in Washington next week to discuss ongoing ceasefire efforts between Israel and Lebanon.
