Washington, Feb 03 (V7N) — Former US President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have agreed to testify in a US Congressional investigation related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, according to US media reports.
Their decision comes just days before the House Oversight Committee moved to advance a contempt of Congress motion, alleging non-compliance with a congressional order. According to CNN, this would mark the first time in more than four decades that a former US president has testified before a congressional panel.
On Monday (February 2), local time, Bill Clinton’s spokesperson Angel Ureña confirmed the decision in a post on social media platform X. The Clintons have described the investigation as politically motivated, claiming it is being used to harass political opponents.
Bill Clinton has repeatedly denied having any knowledge of Epstein’s criminal activities, while acknowledging that he had met Epstein in the past.
Recently released US Justice Department records include travel logs and photographs showing Bill Clinton in social settings with Epstein during earlier years. Clinton’s representatives have stated that the images are decades old and that any association with Epstein ended more than 20 years ago.
The Clintons maintain that they had no involvement in Epstein’s crimes and reject any suggestion of wrongdoing.
