Tehran, Jan 31 (V7N) — US President Donald Trump has said that Iran has signaled openness to a deal with the United States, but he warned Tehran that time is limited to negotiate on its nuclear program as a strong US naval force moves toward the region. Trump made the remarks while speaking to reporters from the White House.
Trump described a large US naval “armada”, including a carrier strike group, heading toward Iran — a fleet he said is larger than the one previously sent to Venezuela. He said that rather than seeking conflict, Washington hopes Iran will return to talks, though he also left open the possibility of further action if no agreement is reached.
Trump has repeatedly framed his stance as pushing Iran back to nuclear negotiations and demanding limits on its nuclear ambitions, while warning Tehran that failure to cooperate could result in more severe military action.
Iranian officials have responded by saying they are ready for fair negotiations with the United States — but only under equal terms and without threats. They have stressed that they will not accept talks under pressure and that discussions must not include demands to negotiate Iran’s defense or missile programs.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has stated that Tehran supports dialogue on the nuclear issue but rejects any negotiations conducted under the threat of military action. Iranian leadership also warned that their armed forces are prepared to defend the country if attacked.
Regional actors have shown interest in mediating between Washington and Tehran to reduce escalation, with some countries calling for peaceful engagement and diplomatic pathways.
