MOSCOW, July 29 (V7N) – Russian state airline Aeroflot was forced to cancel over 100 domestic and international flights on Monday after a large-scale cyberattack disrupted its digital infrastructure. The Kremlin confirmed the breach, calling it a serious concern, while prosecutors have opened a criminal investigation.
Two pro-Ukraine hacking groups, Belarusian Cyber Partisans and Silent Crow, claimed responsibility, saying they targeted Aeroflot’s systems over the course of a year. The attackers allege they wiped around 7,000 servers, extracted internal communications, and stole sensitive data, including passenger records.
The disruptions affected flights to cities such as Yerevan, Minsk, and Tashkent. At Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport, dozens of flights were grounded, causing travel chaos for passengers.
Aeroflot issued a statement advising affected travelers to apply for refunds or reschedule within ten days. The airline’s internal systems, including check-in and booking platforms, were temporarily unavailable.
Officials described the event as one of the most severe cyberattacks on Russia’s transportation sector in recent years.
