Washington, June 22 (V7N) – US Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer has demanded accountability from the Trump administration for launching airstrikes on Iran without prior congressional approval. US-based media outlet CNN reported this development on Sunday (June 22).
“Congress should have been consulted before taking such a major military action,” Schumer said. “This raises a serious constitutional question.” He further questioned whether the strike was genuinely required for national security or if it was a tactic to escalate tensions with Iran.
Meanwhile, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar hailed the US attack on Iran, calling it a “bold decision” that “will be written in the pages of history.” He also said that US President Donald Trump’s name would be written “in golden letters” for this action. Saar credited Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for leading this “historic step.”
As criticism grows at home and praise flows from allies abroad, Trump’s unilateral military action has sparked a major political debate within the United States regarding constitutional authority over war powers.
