Los Angeles, June 7 (V7N) — Protests against a harsh crackdown by U.S. immigration authorities continued for a second consecutive day in Los Angeles, following mass arrests and controversial raids.

Tensions escalated on Saturday as demonstrators blocked roads, set fires in several locations, and clashed with law enforcement. Protesters hurled stones at officers, prompting a forceful police response. Tear gas and stun grenades were used to disperse crowds, which authorities declared an “illegal gathering,” according to a report by Reuters.

The unrest was sparked by sweeping immigration raids carried out on Friday at locations including Home Depot and garment warehouses, resulting in the arrest of 44 individuals. Thousands took to the streets in protest, decrying what they called illegal arrests and excessive use of force.

So far, approximately 200 immigrants have been detained in the ongoing federal immigration campaign.

U.S. President Donald Trump responded with a stern warning, saying federal intervention would be ordered if local officials failed to control the situation. He labeled the demonstrators as “rioters and looters,” further fueling tensions between immigration advocacy groups and federal authorities.

The situation remains volatile as rights groups, immigrant communities, and civil society organizations continue to demand an immediate halt to what they describe as unlawful detentions and racial profiling.
