Islamabad, May 16 (V7N) — Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has claimed that the Pakistan Army has "crushed India’s pride" and "mentally devastated" the Indian forces, while simultaneously extending an invitation to New Delhi for dialogue on the Kashmir issue. His remarks were made during an address to soldiers at the Pasrur cantonment and reported by The Dawn on Wednesday night.
Shehbaz stated, “India, a bigger enemy than us, used to boast of its billions of dollars’ worth of military equipment. But you [the Pakistani army] have dealt a heavy blow to their pride.” He emphasized that Pakistan is not only capable in conventional warfare but also technologically advanced. “We are prepared for war as well as for peace,” he said.
In a direct warning to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Pakistani premier said, “Whether you want war or peace — that is your decision.” He reiterated Pakistan’s willingness to hold dialogue on Kashmir but warned of severe retaliation if India initiates any aggression.
Ceasefire Warning and Water Dispute
Echoing the Prime Minister’s tone, Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif warned that India might breach the ongoing ceasefire due to internal political pressure. “Modi may attempt to attack Pakistan again,” he cautioned.
Shehbaz Sharif also addressed the longstanding Indus Waters Treaty, warning India not to tamper with Pakistan’s water rights. “If India stops the flow of our water, that will be a red line for us. Our brave army will fight to protect that right,” he declared.
No Trade Without Kashmir Resolution
The Prime Minister made it clear that there can be no normalization of trade relations with India without resolving the Kashmir dispute in accordance with UN resolutions. “Trade cannot be separated from the Kashmir issue. It must be part of a broader dialogue framework,” he said.
Calling out India’s regional ambitions, Shehbaz said, “If you [Modi] thought you would become the police of this region, that illusion has been shattered. We want peace and development — but do not mistake this desire for weakness.”
On Terrorism and National Losses
Referring to Pakistan’s sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, Shehbaz stated, “We have lost 90,000 lives and suffered financial losses of $150 billion. This is a fight for our survival.”
The speech underscores the dual approach of the Pakistani leadership — celebrating military resilience while keeping the door open for regional diplomacy, provided that Kashmir is placed at the center of the talks.
