Washington, May 2 (V7N) – U.S. President Donald Trump has removed National Security Advisor Mike Waltz from his post and appointed Secretary of State Marco Rubio as interim NSA, the White House announced on Thursday.

In a statement posted on social media, President Trump said he intends to nominate Waltz as the next U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.

“He has worked tirelessly to put America’s interests first,” Trump stated.

The reshuffle marks a significant shift in Trump’s national security team, placing Rubio in a dual role for the time being. Waltz’s expected nomination to the UN reflects Trump's trust in his diplomatic capabilities on the global stage, particularly ahead of key votes and negotiations at the United Nations.

No timeline has yet been given for the Senate confirmation process for Waltz’s new role.

Mike Waltz, a former Army Green Beret and U.S. Congressman from Florida before serving as NSA, is known for his hawkish foreign policy views and close alignment with Trump’s "America First" doctrine.

Marco Rubio, currently serving as Secretary of State, is expected to hold both roles temporarily until a permanent replacement is confirmed.
