Rabat, Oct 15 (V7N) — Morocco has set a new world record for the most consecutive wins by a national football team. The Atlas Lions defeated Congo 1-0 in the African World Cup qualifiers, marking their 16th consecutive victory and surpassing the previous record of 15 wins held by Spain.

With this win, Morocco completed the World Cup qualifiers with a perfect record, winning all eight Group E matches after already securing their place in the tournament.

The team’s last non-winning match was a 0-0 friendly draw against Mauritania in March last year. Since then, Morocco has recorded seven World Cup qualifier wins, six Africa Cup of Nations qualifier wins, and three consecutive friendly victories, scoring 50 goals and conceding only 4 over the 16-match streak.

Spain’s previous record of 15 consecutive wins stood from June 2008 to June 2009. Morocco’s achievement now places them at the top of international football history for consecutive victories.
