Mongla, July 18 (V7N) – The Mongla Municipal unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) organized a mourning rally on Friday at 11:00 a.m. to commemorate the July martyrs. The rally proceeded through the main roads of the city before culminating in a mourning assembly held at the Municipal Market premises.

The event was presided over by Alhaj Md. Zulfikar Ali, Convenor of the Mongla Municipal BNP and former Mayor of Mongla. Among the speakers were Municipal BNP Member Secretary Mahbubur Rahman Manik, Senior Joint Convenor Emran Hossain, Joint Convenor Khurshid Alam, President of the Municipal Women’s BNP Komola Begum, Vice President Baby Rahman, Bagerhat District Jubo Dal Member Md. Alauddin, former President of the Municipal Jubo Dal Mahmud Riyad, former General Secretary of the Municipal Swechchhasebak Dal Mahbubur Rahman Tutul, President of the Municipal Sramik Dal Md. Altaf Hossain, General Secretary Md. Moniruzzaman, and BNP member Shafiqul Islam Shanto.

In his keynote address, Zulfikar Ali criticized those who, in his words, had forgotten their political roots. He expressed concern over recent derogatory remarks made about the late President Ziaur Rahman, BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, and Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman. According to him, some individuals who once found refuge under the BNP’s leadership are now provoking students and organizations like the National Committee to Protect Oil, Gas, Mineral Resources, Power and Ports (NCPC).

He warned against such actions and called for national unity, urging citizens to reject what he described as "the chaos spread by the Awami League and Gopalganj-based political interests." He concluded by appealing for collective efforts to protect the nation’s democratic integrity.

This rally forms part of BNP’s broader efforts to revive political activism and reinforce party narratives following recent changes in the national political landscape.
