DHAKA, July 14, 2026 (v7n) – State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit today said no flood-affected family would be deprived of relief and rehabilitation support, reaffirming the government's commitment to stand by the people of Cox's Bazar since the onset of the flooding.
Speaking to journalists after distributing relief among flood victims in Jhilongja Union of Cox's Bazar Sadar this morning, the State Minister said additional allocations of relief and cash assistance have been provided to ensure necessary support for affected families, according to an official handout.
He said a coordination meeting was held yesterday at the Deputy Commissioner's office with officials from district and upazila administrations, local MPs, and representatives of various government agencies, which decided to provide additional allocations to every upazila based on supplementary requirements submitted by local administrations.
Under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's instructions, Amit said the government's objective is not only to distribute relief but also to restore normal lives as quickly as possible. Assistance will be provided for repairing damaged houses, roads, bridges, culverts, educational institutions, and religious establishments. Information on losses in agriculture, fisheries, and livestock sectors will also be collected promptly for necessary rehabilitation measures.
Referring to landslide fatalities, the State Minister said living at foothills is extremely risky, and the government has undertaken plans to rehabilitate residents of high-risk areas by providing land and constructing houses in safer locations. He stressed the media's role in raising public awareness and said the government has taken a strict stance against illegal hill cutting and encroachment.
On relief coordination, Amit said efforts are being carried out more effectively through coordinated action by district and upazila administrations, armed forces, BGB, Coast Guard, public representatives, and private aid organisations.
Cox's Bazar-3 MP Lutfur Rahman Kajal, Additional DIG Md. Nazimul Haque, Deputy Commissioner Md. A. Mannan, and SP ANM Sajedur Rahman, among others, were present.
