DHAKA, July 14 (v7n): Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia have initiated high-level bilateral talks aimed at significantly expanding joint cooperation across the maritime transport, logistics infrastructure, and port development sectors.

The high-stakes meeting took place at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Tuesday, featuring deep policy discussions between Bangladesh’s Minister for Road Transport and Bridges, Railways, and Shipping, Sheikh Robiul Alam, and a powerful visiting Saudi delegation led by Vice Minister for Transport and Logistics, Dr. Rumaih bin Mohammed Al-Rumaih.

The strategic dialogue zeroed in on crucial economic lifelines, specifically focusing on port infrastructure modernizations, integrated maritime transport networks, advanced logistics management systems, and technology transfer protocols between the two nations.

  • Mega Project Showcases: Minister Sheikh Robiul Alam briefed the Saudi delegates on Bangladesh's rapid maritime growth, heavily highlighting the upgraded capacities of Chattogram and Mongla ports.

  • The Bay Terminal Push: The Minister extended a formal invitation to Saudi sovereign and private funds to invest in ongoing maritime mega-ventures, including the landmark Bay Terminal project, which aims to vastly increase the country's deep-sea container handling capacity.

  • Saudi Intentions: Expressing keen interest, Dr. Rumaih bin Mohammed Al-Rumaih highly commended Bangladesh’s economic progress and affirmed Riyadh’s desire to deepen corporate and state-level logistics partnerships to elevate existing bilateral ties.

The meeting, also attended by Saudi Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr. Abdullah bin Abiyah alongside senior ministry officials, concluded with a firm mutual commitment to establishing concrete joint initiatives in the near future.

The collaborative push comes at a critical time as Bangladesh continues to look toward major Middle Eastern partners to scale up its industrial supply chain networks and modernize its commercial gateways for global trade.
