LALMONIRHAT, March 23 (V7N) – Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu has announced plans to transform the historic Sindurmoti Pond, located on the Kurigram-Lalmonirhat border, nto a modern tourist attraction.
Speaking as chief guest at a preparatory meeting for the upcoming Sindurmoti Fair held at the pond bank today, Dulu said: “I have a dream centering on Sindurmoti Pond. Architects have already been brought from Dhaka. They are working on how to transform it into a modern and attractive destination.”
He noted that unauthorized shops around the pond have damaged its natural beauty and confirmed that these structures will be removed. Encroached land will also be recovered with the help of government surveyors.
- Scheduled for March 27, the traditional fair is expected to draw thousands of devotees and visitors from home and abroad.
- The minister emphasized strict measures to maintain discipline during the event.
- He highlighted Bangladesh’s inclusive spirit: “Bangladesh belongs to all religions and people—this is the core spirit of our independence.”
The meeting was chaired by Lalmonirhat Deputy Commissioner HM Rokib Haider and conducted by Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mononita Das.
Other attendees included Kurigram Deputy Commissioner Annapurna Deb Nath, Kurigram SP Khondaker Fazle Rabbi, Lalmonirhat SP Md. Asaduzzaman, and Rajarhat UNO Md. Al Imran.
The announcement drew a large crowd, with thousands of men and women gathering around the pond, creating a festive atmosphere across the locality.
