Sylhet, Dec 16 (V7N) – Marking the Great Victory Day, the Society of National Media Commission organized a wreath-laying ceremony at the Central Shaheed Minar in Sylhet to honor the martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the 1971 Liberation War.

The tribute was paid at 11:00 am on Tuesday as leaders and members of the organization gathered at the Shaheed altar to express their deep respect and gratitude to the fallen heroes of the nation.

Those present at the ceremony included Kamal Khan, International Affairs Secretary of the organization’s Central Committee; poet Sunirmal Sen, founder and former senior vice-president of the divisional committee; Aleya Ferdous Tuli, adviser of the Sylhet district unit; Shahan Uddin Nazu, general secretary of the district unit; and divisional members Faisal Qadir and Mosharraf Hossain Khan.

Also in attendance were Abdus Samad, district vice-president; Ashraful Alam, joint general secretary; members Farhaduzzaman Chowdhury, Md. Shihab Uddin, and Lahin Ahmed; Mansur Ahmed Shaplu, assistant office affairs secretary of the Golapganj Upazila unit; Md. Khairul Islam (Khayer), convener of the Greater Shibganj Business Unity Welfare Council; Jamil Ahmed, a member of the organization; Russell Ali, senior vice-president of the Sylhet District Flower Traders Association; Titul Ahmed, finance secretary; Ata Elahi, office secretary; and Mizanur Rahman, among other leaders and activists.

Through the wreath-laying ceremony, the Society of National Media Commission reaffirmed its respect for the supreme sacrifices of the martyrs and pledged to uphold the ideals of the Liberation War, democracy, and responsible journalism in the spirit of the Great Victory Day.
