Kushtia, Dec 17 (V7N) – The authorities of Islamic University celebrated the 55th Great Victory Day with due dignity and solemnity, paying homage to the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives in the 1971 Liberation War that led to Bangladesh’s independence after a nine-month-long bloody struggle.

The observance began at 10:00 am with the hoisting of the national flag by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah and the university flag by Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. M. Yeaqub Ali in front of the administrative building.

Following a formal parade, the university administration, Zia Parishad, the Islamic University Teachers’ Association of Bangladesh (UTAB), leaders of various political parties, student alliances, and cultural organizations placed floral wreaths at the ‘Mukto Bangla’ memorial to honor the martyrs of 1971. A minute of silence was observed in their memory, followed by a special prayer seeking eternal peace for the departed souls.

The program concluded with the laying of a floral wreath at the university’s Foundation Stone, commemorating Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and his role in the Liberation War and nation-building.

To further mark the occasion, the university authorities organized a friendly sports match involving teams of teachers, officers, staff, and residential halls, adding a spirit of unity and celebration to the Victory Day observance.

Through these programs, Islamic University reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the ideals of the Liberation War and honoring the sacrifices that led to the birth of an independent Bangladesh.
