Dhaka, Dec 10 (V7N) – BNP Acting Chairman Tareq Rahman expressed his apology to retired Major General (retd.) Sadik Hasan Rumi during a virtual address from London at a meeting held at the BNP Chairperson’s political office in Gulshan on Tuesday night. The gathering brought together over 100 retired military personnel for a discussion session.
The event was presided over by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, with retired Major General (retd.) Fazle Elahi Akbar serving as the moderator.
During his remarks, Tareq Rahman personally addressed Major General Rumi, recalling an incident during a march from Old Dhaka to Amin Bazar when he had acted harshly toward Rumi. “I am very sorry for that. I have tried for a long time to reach out and apologize, and today I have the opportunity. I am really sorry,” Tareq Rahman said.
In response, Major General Rumi expressed gratitude, saying, “Thank you very much. I will remember this.”
The session also featured remarks from BNP Standing Committee member Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Vice Chairman Air Vice Marshal (retd.) Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, and several retired military officers, including Major General (retd.) Jamil D. Ahsan, Major (retd.) Reza Karim, Major (retd.) Samsuzzohah, Major (retd.) Jamal Haider, Major (retd.) Azizul Haque, Colonel (retd.) Harunur Rashid, Lieutenant Colonel (retd.) Shamsuzzohah, Air Commodore (retd.) Shafik Ahmed, Rear Admiral (retd.) Mostafiz, Lieutenant Colonel (retd.) Zainal Abedin, Colonel (retd.) Jaglul, Lieutenant (retd.) Imran Kajol, Major (retd.) Golam Mannan Chowdhury, Captain (retd.) Rezaur Rahman, and Colonel (retd.) Hannan Mridha.
The meeting provided a platform for discussion between BNP leadership and retired military officers, fostering engagement and dialogue on party matters, personal reflections, and mutual respect between political leaders and former defense officials.
