Rangamati, Aug 06 (V7N) — People from all walks of life in Rangamati paid tribute to those who lost their lives during the July Mass Uprising as the district observed July Mass Uprising Day 2026 with wreath-laying ceremonies and commemorative events on Wednesday.
The observance began in the morning at the July Memorial near the Central Shaheed Minar in Rangamati town, where elected representatives, district administration officials, law enforcement personnel and members of the public laid floral wreaths in honour of the victims.
The ceremony was attended by Member of Parliament for Rangamati and former Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Advocate Dipen Dewan, Deputy Commissioner Nazma Ashrafi, Superintendent of Police Muhammad Abdur Rakib, BPM (Service), Additional Deputy Commissioner Ruhul Amin, the President of the Rangamati Press Club, and senior officials from various government and non-government organisations.
Representatives of social, cultural and professional organisations, along with local residents from different backgrounds, also joined the programme.
Following the wreath-laying ceremony, participants observed a one-minute silence in memory of those who were killed during the July Mass Uprising. They also reaffirmed their commitment to the values of patriotism, justice and national unity inspired by the sacrifices of the victims.
Speakers at the event described the July Mass Uprising as a significant chapter in Bangladesh's history, saying the sacrifices made by those who lost their lives would continue to inspire future generations in the pursuit of democracy, justice and equal rights.
Officials attending the programme said preserving the history of the July Mass Uprising and educating younger generations about the sacrifices made during the movement would help strengthen patriotism, democratic values and civic responsibility.
A calm and solemn atmosphere prevailed throughout Rangamati during the observance, with residents from across the district participating in tribute programmes to honour the memory of those who died during the July Mass Uprising.
