TEKNAF, April 14, (V7N) — Home Minister Salah Uddin Ahmed will visit Teknaf today for the first time since the new government was sworn in, where he will inaugurate the distribution of Agricultural Cards among 1,698 farmers under a pre‑piloting project.
The program will be held at Teknaf Ezahar Government Girls’ High School grounds at 10:30 am. According to the Department of Agricultural Extension, farmers from three wards of Rajarchara block, Sadar Union were selected through a door‑to‑door survey in March.
Key details of the initiative
Beneficiaries: 1,698 farmers, including landless, marginal, small, medium, and large farmers, as well as those engaged in livestock, fisheries, and salt farming.
Bank accounts: Each selected farmer has been given a free account at Sonali Bank’s Teknaf branch. Tk 2,500 has been deposited into each account.
Card usage: Farmers cannot withdraw cash directly; they can purchase fertilizer, seeds, pesticides, and poultry feed from approved dealers using the card.
Benefits: Ten types of support, including fair‑priced inputs, irrigation facilities, and easy‑term agricultural loans.
Farmers’ response
Local farmers expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for including Teknaf in the pilot project. They said the cards would help reduce costs and ensure transparency in accessing agricultural inputs.
Official remarks
Teknaf Upazila Agriculture Officer Md. Humayun Kabir confirmed that preparations are complete: “Under the pre‑piloting project, 1,698 farmers have been selected through a modern and advanced survey process. The Honorable Home Minister will formally distribute agricultural cards among them.”
