Trishal (Mymensingh), Feb 04 (V7N) - Asaduzzaman Sohel, Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Mymensingh Metropolitan and the Jamaat-nominated, 10-party alliance-backed candidate for the Mymensingh-7 (Trishal) constituency, on Tuesday said that extortion has become the only “business” operating without a license and vowed to stop it in Trishal.
Speaking during an exchange of views with journalists at the temporary Jamaat-e-Islami office in Trishal Municipality, Sohel said that if elected in the February 12 national election, his priority would be to eliminate extortion and establish a system based on justice and accountability.
He outlined several development pledges, including reducing traffic congestion in Trishal, constructing a flyover at Darirampur, improving road infrastructure, ensuring equal facilities in schools, colleges and madrasas, expanding administrative services to the grassroots level, and taking strong measures against drug abuse.
Sohel also stressed the importance of maintaining a peaceful and inclusive election environment. He noted that threats or intimidation by any overenthusiastic supporters were undesirable and contrary to Jamaat’s principles. “We want a fair, beautiful and participatory election. Our goal is a Bangladesh founded on justice, fairness and good governance, where people of all political views and backgrounds can enjoy their rights,” he said.
The programme was attended by Jamaat-e-Islami Trishal Upazila Amir Anam Abdullahil Baki, Secretary Mustafizur Rahman Shamim, Municipality Secretary Enamul Haque, along with party leaders, activists, and journalists from local press clubs as well as print and electronic media outlets.
