Jhalokathi, Dec 20 (V7N) — The family of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inquilab Mancha and an independent candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency in the upcoming national election, has demanded the construction of a memorial at Shahbagh to preserve his legacy following his untimely death.

The demand was raised by Hadi’s brother-in-law, Amir Hossain Howladar, on Friday morning, December 19, while speaking to journalists at Hadi’s birthplace in the Khasmahal area of Nalchity upazila in Jhalokathi. He said Shahbagh held special significance in Hadi’s life, as his political rise began from that area.

“Sharif Osman Hadi emerged from Shahbagh, and therefore a memorial should be built there in his memory,” Amir Hossain said. He also called for Hadi’s poetry collections to be included in academic textbooks and for his biography to be incorporated into school and college curricula.

Amir Hossain noted that the nationwide affection for Hadi was the result of years of dedication and effort. He said Hadi was deeply loved by his family and equally cherished by people in his locality.

Demanding justice, he urged the authorities to swiftly bring the killers to justice and ensure exemplary punishment. He warned that the family and supporters would continue protests until justice is served, stating that no consolation could compensate for the loss of such a talented individual.

Regarding burial arrangements, Amir Hossain said no final decision has yet been made. The family will decide after the body arrives in Dhaka. However, he added that Hadi had expressed in his writings a wish to be buried beside his father’s grave, and the family is considering honoring that wish.

Sharif Osman Hadi was shot by motorcycle-borne assailants last Friday while traveling by rickshaw along Box Culvert Road in the Paltan area of the capital. He was later flown to Singapore by air ambulance on Monday for advanced treatment. Despite medical efforts, he died at Singapore General Hospital at around 9:30 pm on Thursday while undergoing treatment.
