Barguna, August 9 (V7N) – Journalists in Barguna organized a human chain and protest rally on Saturday demanding justice for the brutal killing of journalist Asaduzzaman Tuhin and the violent assault on journalist Anwar Hossain in Gazipur.

In response to the gruesome killing of Dainik Protidiner Kagoj staff reporter Asaduzzaman Tuhin—who was found slaughtered—and the abduction and severe beating of Bangladesher Alo Gazipur correspondent Anwar Hossain, the Barguna District unit of the Bangladesh Mofossol Sangbadik Forum (BMSF) staged a human chain and protest rally at the Barguna Press Club premises on Saturday, August 9, shortly after 11 a.m.

The protest was presided over by BMSF Barguna District President Jahangir Kabir Mridha and moderated by General Secretary Mahmud Hasan Taposh.

Speakers at the rally strongly condemned the attack and called for immediate and exemplary punishment of those responsible. They warned that incidents of violence against journalists are becoming alarmingly frequent across the country, and without collective resistance and unity among media professionals, such oppression would continue to escalate.

Among those who spoke were Advocate Sohel Hafiz, President of the Barguna Press Club; former Press Club President Zakir Hossain Miraj; journalist Monir Hossain Kamal; former BNP District Organizing Secretary Humayun Hasan Shahin; District Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Professor Mawlana Mohibullah Harun; General Secretary of the District Journalist Torture Prevention Committee Jafar Hossain Hawlader; President of the District Print Media Journalist Forum Hafizur Rahman; General Secretary Md. Rezaul Islam Titu Molla; President of Reporters Unity Md. Mahbubul Alam Mannu; BMSF Vice-President and MyTV District Correspondent Md. Shafiqul Islam Swapon; and District President of the International Human Rights Journalists Association Ittija Hasan Monir.

Speakers emphasized that the country’s overall law and order situation is deteriorating, making both journalists and ordinary citizens increasingly vulnerable. They warned that such targeted attacks and systemic negligence cannot be allowed to persist in a civilized society.

The rally drew the participation and solidarity of multiple journalist groups including the Barguna Press Club, Journalist Torture Prevention Committee, Reporters Unity, and the International Human Rights Journalists Association.
