Police and railway officials inspect a section of the track near Madhnagar Railway Station in Natore on August 3, 2025, where a locked iron chain was found wrapped around the rail in an apparent attempt to derail a train.
Natore, August 4 (V7N) – A potential train disaster was narrowly averted late Sunday night when local police and railway personnel swiftly removed a locked iron chain placed on railway tracks near Madhnagar Railway Station.
At approximately 10:30 PM, residents of Palashitala in Naldanga Upazila noticed an iron chain tightly wrapped around the southern rail line adjacent to the station, raising fears of sabotage. They immediately alerted authorities, prompting a rapid response by Naldanga Police Station and railway staff.
Officer-in-Charge, (OC) Md. Rafiqul Islam confirmed that upon receiving the tip-off, police rushed to the site and cooperated with the station master and an Atrai-based railway mechanic to cut and remove the chain. Thanks to their prompt action, no train was harmed and rail movement remained uninterrupted.
Initial investigations suggest that unknown miscreants intentionally locked the chain onto the tracks in an attempt to derail a passing train. Authorities are reviewing surveillance records and have launched an inquiry to identify the perpetrators.
The incident has raised serious concerns about rail safety in the region, and both police and railway officials have vowed to enhance patrols along vulnerable light zones to prevent similar threats in the future.
