Pabna, June 12 (V7N)– The family of Rashedul Islam Robi, a victim of a recent knife attack in Khairash village, Chatmohar upazila, is reportedly living in fear due to ongoing threats from the attacker's relatives. The threats, which include suggestive TikTok videos featuring domestic weapons, have heightened concerns for their safety.
The incident, which occurred on May 26 around 11 PM, began as a trivial argument outside Nazim Uddin's grocery store in Khairash Dakshinpara. Rashedul Islam Robi (20) reportedly asked Shanto Mollah (16) and Rahul Mollah (18) to move from a bamboo fence they were sitting on. The verbal exchange escalated, and when the situation did not de-escalate, Robi allegedly began verbally abusing them. Shanto's elder brother, Farid Mollah (27), then intervened.
During a scuffle, Robi is accused of randomly attacking Shanto, Rahul, and Farid with a sharp knife. All three sustained serious injuries and were initially taken to Chatmohar Upazila Health Complex before being transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital due to their deteriorating condition.
Robi was apprehended by locals as he attempted to flee after the stabbing. Police were called via 999 and subsequently arrested him. The following day, May 27, Shanto's father, Palash Mollah, filed a case against Robi (Case No. 16), leading to Robi's arrest and subsequent detention by the court.
However, the family of the injured claims that on May 27, the day after the incident, Robi's father Rafiqul Pramanik, uncles Shafiqul Pramanik, Rojim Pramanik, Helal and Dulal, and cousins Bashar and Sagar, went to the injured's house armed with country-made weapons and issued death threats.
Palash Mollah, the plaintiff in the case, stated, "They came to our house on the morning of May 27 and threatened us. They have been threatening our family members one after another at different times. They are even threatening us through TikTok with sharp weapons. We are now suffering from insecurity. We never know what will happen." The victims specifically cited a TikTok video uploaded by Robi's cousin Sagar, allegedly displaying a large, sharp knife with suggestive threats.
When contacted, Robi's uncle Helal Uddin denied the threats, stating he only intervened to stop an argument. "When Shant told me that your nephew was abusing us, he asked me to stop him. Then I went and stopped him. I pushed my nephew Robi and asked him to go to his house. At that time, a fight broke out between the two. Seeing the situation getting worse, I could not stop them. That's all I know. The allegation of threats is not true." Another uncle, Rojim Pramanik, also denied knowledge of the threats, saying he was sleeping at the time of the alleged incident. Attempts to reach Sagar regarding the TikTok video were unsuccessful as his phone was switched off.
Chatmohar Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Nayan Kumar Sarkar confirmed the ongoing case and Robi's arrest. However, he stated, "No one has informed us about the threats. If the victims file a GD (General Diary) at the police station, we will provide legal assistance. We will investigate who is making the threats and take action."
