Ramu, July 29 (V7N) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has arrested Nurul Absar, a key associate of notorious smuggling gang leader Shaheen, from Gorjonia in Ramu, Cox’s Bazar. The arrest took place during an operation targeting cross-border smuggling activities. Authorities recovered multiple illegal firearms and ammunition from Nurul Absar at the time of his detention.
Nurul Absar, son of Farid Alam, is a resident of Gorjonia village in Ramu Upazila. According to a press release issued by BGB, the operation successfully confiscated four locally-made single-barrel guns, one locally-made double-barrel gun, eight rounds of live ammunition, and six empty cartridges.
BGB officials further revealed that Nurul Absar has been involved in several criminal activities, including cattle smuggling and drug trafficking in collaboration with the gang led by Shaheen, who is known for his violent and illicit activities along the border. Nurul Absar reportedly managed Shaheen’s cattle farms that were supplied from Myanmar and played a significant role in facilitating Shaheen’s various criminal agendas.
The press release also referred to a previous incident on March 14, 2024, in the Thimchhari area of Gorjonia, where Nurul Absar was allegedly involved in the killing of Taleb and connected directly with Shaheen’s gang.
Following his arrest, Nurul Absar was handed over to Ramu Police Station with the seized illegal weapons and ammunition. Investigations and legal proceedings are currently ongoing.
The BGB’s operation is part of a broader campaign to combat cross-border crime, including drug trafficking, cattle smuggling, and terrorism in the border and hill areas. Security experts believe these efforts will help curb criminal activity and restore peace in the region.
The arrest reflects ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to dismantle organized smuggling networks and ensure the safety and security of border communities in Cox’s Bazar.
