Dhaka, June 30 (V7N) — The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested four fraudsters following a Facebook post by Hasanath Abdullah, a chief organiser of the National Citizens Party (NCP) in the Southern region, alleging ACC officers demanded bribes.

The arrested individuals are Md. Selim, Md. Tarikul Islam, Md. Atik, and Md. Abdul Hai Sohag. However, the alleged ringleader, Sohag Patwari, remains at large under surveillance, ACC sources confirm.

On Saturday night, a joint operation led by ACC Director Abul Hasanath, with support from police, RAB, and other law enforcement, apprehended the suspects in Dhaka’s Green Model Town area.

Authorities confiscated a Sony digital HD camera, a boom microphone, a selfie stick, two passports, multiple fake ID cards bearing newspaper names, official visiting cards of senior officers, a cheque book, six mobile phones, and 13 SIM cards.

The crackdown followed Hasanath Abdullah’s Facebook post titled “ACC Bill for Tea: Tk 100,000,” which caught national attention and prompted swift action by the ACC.

In a press briefing at ACC headquarters, ACC Director-General and spokesperson Akhtar Hossain, along with Director Abul Hasanath and Public Relations Officer Akhtarul Islam, confirmed the arrests and stated that an ACC Assistant Director has filed a case against the four individuals at Ramna Police Station. The suspects were subsequently handed over to Ramna Police.

The arrests aim to uncover whether the arrests are part of a genuine extortion scheme or a setup, as investigations continue.
