Chattogram, June 30 (V7N) — A Chattogram court has ordered the seizure of a five-storey residential building owned by former Excise and VAT Assistant Commissioner Mohammad Nasir Uddin and his wife Tasmin Jahan Chowdhury, in connection with an ongoing investigation into illegal wealth accumulation.

On Sunday, Chattogram Senior Special Judge Hasanul Islam issued the order, also instructing the court’s Nazir (bailiff) to act as the official receiver of the property. The house is located in the city’s Katalganj residential area.

According to Subel Ahmed, Deputy Director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) at the Chattogram Integrated District Office-1, the case against Nasir Uddin and his wife involves allegations of acquiring assets beyond known sources of income. The ACC submitted a petition to freeze the couple’s Katalganj property, claiming it was purchased through unlawful means.

“The court has accepted our application and ordered the property to be seized. A receiver has also been appointed. As a result, the owners can no longer sell or transfer the property,” said ACC official Subel Ahmed.

Nasir Uddin, now retired, last served as an Assistant Commissioner and Divisional Officer in the Excise and VAT Department in Moulvibazar. According to the ACC, he concealed assets worth Tk 28.34 lakh in his wealth statement and unlawfully acquired additional assets worth Tk 1.36 crore, which are inconsistent with his known sources of income.

He currently resides on Road No. 3 in the Katalganj residential area, while his ancestral home is in Bajalia, Satkania upazila of Chattogram district.

The court’s decision marks a significant development in the ACC’s broader crackdown on illicit wealth held by former and current public officials.
