Dhaka, July 28 (V7N)- A Dhaka court has sentenced former Bangladesh Bank Deputy Governor Sitanshu Kumar (SK) Sur Chowdhury to three years in prison in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for failing to submit an asset declaration.
Judge Ayesha Nasrin of Dhaka’s Special Judge Court-2 delivered the verdict on Tuesday (July 28).
Earlier, arguments from both the prosecution and the accused concluded on July 15. The ACC filed the case against SK Sur Chowdhury on December 23, 2024. Later, the ACC submitted the charge sheet to the court on August 4, 2025.
The court framed charges on November 6, 2025, and ordered the trial to begin. During the trial proceedings, seven witnesses testified before the court.
According to the case documents, the ACC had issued a notice to SK Sur Chowdhury and his dependents to submit their asset declarations within 21 working days over allegations of acquiring assets beyond known sources of income. However, he failed to submit the required declaration within the specified period.
The ACC arrested SK Sur Chowdhury from the Segunbagicha area of Dhaka on January 14, 2025. He has remained in custody since then.
