Dhaka, Oct 28 (V7N)- The fourth day of the hearing on the appeal against the verdict abolishing the caretaker government system is underway before a full bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed.

The hearing resumed on Tuesday morning (October 28).

On the third day of the hearing, lawyer Shishir Monir told the court that the process through which the caretaker government was scrapped had been pre-planned, claiming that Sheikh Hasina established a dictatorship by abolishing the system. He emphasized that there is no alternative to the caretaker government to ensure a proper electoral process in Bangladesh.

Earlier, on August 27, the Supreme Court granted a petition seeking review of the 2011 verdict that had annulled the caretaker government system, thereby allowing the appeal. Following the decision, five individuals, including Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, and Jamaat Secretary General Golam Parwar, filed appeals.

It may be recalled that in 2011, the Appellate Division under then Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque declared the caretaker government system unconstitutional by majority opinion.
