Dhaka, Aug 06 (V7N) – The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) continues to hear testimonies for the third consecutive day in the crimes against humanity case against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and former Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun.

On Wednesday (August 6), two witnesses are scheduled to testify before the tribunal. Among them is former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, who was brought to the court in the morning as a royal witness in the case.

So far, three witnesses have provided testimony detailing the alleged atrocities committed during the July Genocide, including accounts of violence, enforced disappearances, and targeted killings. The witnesses have demanded justice and the trial of the masterminds, holding Sheikh Hasina, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun responsible for orchestrating the brutal crackdown.

Background of the Case

On July 10, the International Crimes Tribunal-1 officially ordered the commencement of trial proceedings against the three accused. While Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal have been declared absconding, Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun remains in detention and is facing trial in custody.

The charges stem from a series of alleged crimes against humanity, including mass killings, torture, and the suppression of peaceful protests linked to the July Uprising.

Separate Trial for Abu Said’s Murder

Meanwhile, the International Crimes Tribunal-2 is also scheduled to issue an order today on whether to frame charges against six accused individuals in the murder case of Abu Said, a student of Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur. The accused have been presented before the tribunal, and the case is being closely watched by student and human rights organizations.
