Dhaka, Aug 04 (V7N) – Abdullah Al Imran, a key witness in the ongoing case linked to the July movement, has alleged that then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave direct instructions to deny both release and medical treatment to injured protesters. He made the statement during his court testimony on Monday (August 4).
Imran, a student of Dhaka College, told the court that after being shot in the leg by police near the Bijoynagar water tank on July 19, he was admitted to the National Paralympic Hospital. “Sheikh Hasina visited the hospital and gave an order: ‘No release, no treatment,’” Imran claimed, adding that he was subsequently denied proper medical care and was also refused discharge when he tried to seek treatment elsewhere.
He described witnessing two fellow protestors being killed in front of him during the police crackdown. While being taken to the hospital, their ambulance was stopped in front of the house of then Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, where one injured passenger was arrested.
In his testimony, Imran held Sheikh Hasina, former Home Minister Kamal, and then Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun responsible for the suffering and long-term consequences he endures today. Former IGP Mamun, now a state witness after turning from accused to approver, was present in the courtroom during the testimony.
The statement has added a new layer of controversy to the already politically charged investigation into the July uprising.
