Dhaka, May 06 (V7N) – Lawyer Shishir Monir has alleged that Jamaat-e-Islami leader Quader Mollah was hanged illegally on charges of crimes against humanity. He claimed that the hanging was carried out in a summary judgment following a review of the case.

On Tuesday (May 6) morning, a 7-judge bench of the Appellate Division, led by Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed, was hearing an appeal seeking the acquittal of ATM Azharul Islam, a death-row Jamaat leader.

During the hearing, Shishir Monir alleged that the verdict to hang Quader Mollah was swiftly delivered before the January 5, 2013 elections, with the testimony in the case not being properly considered. He also pointed out that the accused did not get the opportunity to cross-check witnesses, and several individuals who had been allowed to do so did not match the statements they had given to the police.

The lawyer further stated in court that when the review of Mollah’s case was rejected, the reasoning behind the rejection should have been written down, but it was absent in the summary judgment. Monir emphasized that no precedent exists in the subcontinent for such an action.
