Dhaka, Nov 05 (V7N)- Bangladesh is aiming to build a $1 trillion economy by 2034 under the manifesto endorsed by voters in the 13th National Parliament election, Speaker Major General Hafiz Uddin Ahmed has said.
He made the remarks while inaugurating the 30th US Trade Show 2026 at the InterContinental Dhaka on Thursday.
The Speaker said the planned economy would be driven by investment rather than consumption. He added that the government was strengthening economic diplomacy to protect Bangladesh's commercial interests and expand access to new markets.
At the event, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo said the government was working to create a business-friendly environment in which US companies could operate production facilities comfortably.
He expressed hope that trade and investment relations between Bangladesh and the United States would grow stronger in the coming years.
US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen said foreign investment could increase further if workers' rights were better protected and labour laws were effectively implemented.
He also said the mutual trade agreement would create new opportunities to unlock Bangladesh's economic potential.
The three-day trade show, organised by the American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh in association with the US Embassy, runs from November 5 to 7 at the InterContinental Dhaka.
