Dhaka, Oct 16 (V7N)- Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has taken special security measures ahead of Sharad Durga Puja, deploying personnel to help ensure the safety of 2,727 puja mandaps across the country, including those in border areas.
BGB Director (Operations), Lieutenant Colonel Md. Mahbub Murshed Rahman, disclosed the measures at a media briefing at BGB headquarters on Friday morning, October 16, 2026.
He said 450 platoons of BGB personnel would conduct round-the-clock patrols to protect puja mandaps and maintain security along the country's borders. Particular attention has been given to mandaps located in border areas.
Rahman said the force would also maintain special surveillance and intelligence operations to prevent the spread of rumours, misinformation and communal provocations related to Durga Puja through social media and other communication channels.
He urged members of the public to cooperate with BGB and promptly report any security concerns or suspicious activities.
The briefing also highlighted strengthened border surveillance to prevent the smuggling of drugs and illegal weapons into the country during the festival.
In addition, BGB is using modern surveillance technologies, including drones, to detect and prevent unauthorised border crossings, illegal infiltration and push-in attempts.
The force said the measures were aimed at maintaining border security and helping ensure that Durga Puja celebrations proceed peacefully across the country.
