Brahmanbaria, Sep 19 (V7N)- Well No. 28 of the Titas Gas Field in Brahmanbaria has officially begun operations, adding 12.5 million cubic feet of gas per day to Bangladesh's national grid.
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit inaugurated the gas supply operation on Saturday afternoon.
Drilling of the new well began on December 15 last year at Suhilpur in Brahmanbaria's Sadar Upazila. The well was drilled to a depth of 3,526 metres.
Following completion of drilling, the necessary tests and inspections were carried out to assess the well's production capacity and ensure its readiness for commercial operation.
Gas from the well was initially supplied to the national grid on a trial basis from June 19. Following the successful trial operation, regular gas supply has now been officially launched.
The addition of 12.5 million cubic feet of gas per day is expected to contribute to efforts to strengthen the country's overall gas supply and meet growing demand from consumers and industries.
Meanwhile, 23 wells at the Titas Gas Field are currently in production, supplying an average of around 331 million cubic feet of gas to the national grid every day.
The latest well marks another addition to the country's domestic gas production capacity as authorities seek to maintain supply to power plants, industries and other consumers.
