Dhaka, Sep 18 (V7N)- Social Welfare Minister Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain has said that despite having numerous surgeons and professors in Bangladesh's medical sector, the country still lacks visionary planning for healthcare development.
He made the remarks on Friday morning (September 18) at a seminar held at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases in Bangladesh.
The minister said meaningful development in the health sector is not possible without the ability to take timely and necessary measures to ensure proper patient care.
He noted that the government has undertaken various initiatives in the education and healthcare sectors and allocated funds to improve health services. He stressed that the allocated budget must be used effectively to ensure the intended benefits.
Dr. Zahid Hossain also expressed concern over the rising incidence of cardiac diseases in the country.
He said patients no longer need to travel abroad for many types of cardiac examinations and treatment, as Bangladesh has qualified surgeons and professors whose expertise can be utilized effectively.
September 18 also marks an important milestone in the country's cardiac surgery history. The first successful open-heart surgery in Bangladesh was performed on September 18, 1981.
Marking the historic achievement, Bangladesh's cardiac surgery sector has now completed 45 years of service.
